DHS Report Exposes Biden-Era FEMA Denied Aid to Trump Supporters

Strict actions have been taken after Hurricanes Helene and Milton to ensure all disaster survivors receive equal access to assistance

WASHINGTON – The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released the following statement after the DHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued a report detailing its findings with regards to political bias during the Biden Administration that saw some households in Florida ignored for disaster assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton due to pro-Trump signs outside.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct. The recent OIG report, “FEMA Disaster Response Crew Violated Law and Policy by Skipping Homes with Political Signage”, cites disaster response activities that FEMA has already investigated, publicly addressed, and no longer practices.

In cooperation with the DHS OIG, FEMA’s Office of Professional Responsibility conducted an exhaustive investigation of the incident to determine the full extent of any further inappropriate behavior or misconduct. At the conclusion of the investigation, three additional individuals who failed to meet FEMA’s standards of conduct were terminated. This swift action by leadership showed the workforce that bias toward survivors was reprehensible, intolerable, and not conducive to employment at FEMA.

“Our job is to protect the American people, regardless of their political beliefs. This is especially important when it comes to disaster relief, where every second counts and lives are on the line,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “The blatant abuse of power seen at FEMA under the Biden Administration was unacceptable, inhumane, and un-American. We’ve made sure that everyone responsible for this incident has been punished, and we’ll make sure that nothing like this ever happens again. The Trump Administration will always put the safety of the American people first.”

“What happened under the Biden Administration was unacceptable. Under President Trump, political bias has no place at FEMA,” said FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton. “Thanks to President Trump, FEMA has been empowered to hold accountable those who are responsible and has changed how it conducts survivor outreach to ensure Americans are treated fairly and assistance is driven by need. Under my watch, all parties involved in this situation have been held accountable. Political bias has no room in public service.”

In alignment with FEMA’s key mandate to support locally-executed and state-led disaster response, FEMA no longer conducts FEMA-led door-to-door outreach efforts. Instead, staff now provide support to survivors from fixed locations determined by state and local officials through a data-informed approach.

Under the Trump Administration, disaster aid is no longer politicized. FEMA is committed to supporting Americans across the nation, working closely with state and local partners to help communities before, during, and after disasters.
