HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Jan. 11, 2017 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) is working with locally-based Accurate Machine and Tool (AMT), preparing the company to serve a wider array of potential customers and increase opportunities to bid on government work as a prime contractor in the future. The partnership is part of the Department of Defense’s Mentor-Protégé Program, which encourages prime contractors to serve as mentors in developing the technical and business capabilities of small businesses.
Under a three-year contract awarded by the Missile Defense Agency in April, Lockheed Martin is assisting AMT with refining its manufacturing and management processes to better serve its aerospace, defense and commercial customers. AMT currently manufactures products for Lockheed Martin’s Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), F-35 Lightning II and Orion spacecraft programs.
“Lockheed Martin partnered with Accurate Machine and Tool in a mentor-protégé agreement because of AMT’s outstanding quality, versatility, adaptability and proactive execution of THAAD Peculiar Support Equipment,” said Tom Smiley, Lockheed Martin THAAD Project Manager.
AMT is a woman-owned small business specializing in hardware integration and support manufacturing services. The company employs 37 people in Madison, Alabama, and has an AS-9100C and ISO-9001:2008 certified Quality Management System.
“AMT is looking forward to broadening our relationship with Lockheed Martin and considers our partnership an opportunity to explore new ideas, expand our integration capability, sharpen our expertise and posture us for continued growth,” said Norris Simons, AMT Vice President and General Manager.
