John Lawson of Watching Amazon: Non-stop News from Amazon Provides Non-stop Lessons for SMBs
I’ve been fascinated with Amazon (and devices from them) for years now. So much that I’ve been in the process (a long process …) of writing a book on how this one company has and continues to change the rules of customer engagement for almost every business. And as the years go by, maybe the most fascinating thing about Amazon is that the number of ways they are impacting customer expectations for engaging with vendors grows larger and come faster as time goes on.

Satellite View of Post Tropical Cyclone Jose Fading | NASA's Hurricane Web Page
Satellite View of Post Tropical Cyclone Jose Fading
The National Hurricane Center issued their final advisory on Post-Tropical Cyclone Jose on Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. EDT. NOAA's GOES East satellite saw the circulation of Jose on Sept. 23 off the New England coast as it continued to weaken. All Tropical Storm Warnings have been discontinued.
At 5 p.m. EDT (2100 UTC) on Sept. 22 in the National Hurricane Center's final advisory, the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Jose was located near 39.3 degrees north latitude and 69.1 degrees west longitude. That's about 140 miles south-southeast of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The post-tropical cyclone was moving toward the southeast near 3 mph (6 kph) and a slow southeastward drift is forecast for the next day or two.
Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (75 kph) with higher gusts. The estimated minimum central pressure is 996 millibars.
NOAA's GOES East satellite provided this visible view of post-tropical cyclone Jose on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 8:15 a.m. EDT. The storm continued weakening and generated light rain. The northwestern quadrant was still over Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Swells generated by Jose are affecting Bermuda and much of the U.S. east coast and will likely cause dangerous surf and rip current conditions during the next couple of days. Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard maintained a high surf advisory on Sept. 23.

Evasive Malware Campaign Abuses Free Cloud Service, Targets Korean Speakers
Earlier this month, FortiGuard Labs researchers published findings about a malware campaign exploiting a PowerPoint vulnerability. Cybercriminals, however, are equal opportunity exploiters, so just recently an interesting targeted malware campaign was found to be using another document vulnerability. Only this time, it’s a Hangul Word Processor (HWP) document leveraging the already known CVE-2015-2545 Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) vulnerability.

For Cybercriminals, IoT Devices are Big Business, Part Two
In part one of this article, Anthony Giandomenico described how cybercrime has become not only a business, but a big business, designed to generate revenue with predesigned attacks focused on attack vectors that are easy to exploit: IoT devices.
Opportunity is also the land of innovation
Because cybercriminals are focusing more on attacks that target critical infrastructure based on new, interconnected technologies, they don’t have to spend enormous resources and development cycles on figuring out how to break into these systems using complex zero-day attacks. Instead, they can spend more of their resources on making their exploits more difficult to detect, more effective by introducing things like worm capabilities to spread infections further and faster, adding multivector capabilities in order to run exploits on a wider range of vulnerable systems, and developing intelligent, multilayered malware that provides a lot of options for stealing data or compromising systems.

For Cybercriminals, IoT Devices are Big Business, Part One
When people think of cybercrime, they tend to think of geeks in dark rooms staring into computer monitors trying to figure out some new way to infiltrate a network. And historically, that was a pretty accurate assessment.

Five Cyber Threats Every Security Leader Must Know About
Networks are evolving at an unprecedented rate. Physical and virtual environments, private and public clouds, and a growing array of IoT and endpoint devices are all dramatically expanding the potential attack surface. Protecting highly elastic network environments present cybersecurity leaders with a complex array of security challenges. In part, this is because cyberthreats continue to grow in both scope and severity in order to exploit the growing number of new attack vectors. As a result, the number of recurring high profile breaches, including ransomware attacks and other cyber incidents, continue to grow at a mind numbing pace in spite of billions of dollars being spent on cybersecurity resources

Rewriting IDAPython Script objc2_xrefs_helper.py for Hopper
Security researchers have identified more and more Mac OS malware attacks over the past two years. In June 2017, Rommel Joven and Wayne Chin Yick Low from Fortinet’s Fortiguard Labs found and analyzed a new ransomware targeted at Mac OS. Most malware for Mac OS was developed in the Objective-C programming language. A good introduction to reverse engineering Cocoa applications can be found here. In that blog post, the researcher released an IDAPython script named objc2_xrefs_helper.py that can only be executed in IDA Pro. As you know, IDA Pro is the gold standard for disassemblers. However, IDA Pro Licenses start at $1409 (you can refer to that here). So this can be extremely cost prohibitive for many people. One good alternative is the Hopper Disassembler for Mac OS. A Hopper Disassembler v4 Personal License is only $99.00.

A Look Into The New Strain Of BankBot
BankBot is a family of Trojan malware targeting Android devices that surfaced in the second half of 2016. The main goal of this malware is to steal banking credentials from the victim’s device. It usually impersonates flash player updaters, android system tools, or other legitimate applications. Once installed, it hides itself and then tricks the user into typing his or her credentials into fake bank web pages that have been injected onto the device’s screen.
